Consultation
  • Consultation can happen once or on a more frequent follow-up schedule.
  • Consultation may be provided over the phone or in person.
  • Consultation may include specific training regarding a specific technique, communication system or generalization of skills, etc.

1. Initial Consultation

  • During an initial consultation, the family and/or school team have the opportunity to describe concerns, gain information and receive professional advice about a possible speech language disorder or delay.

  • The consultation may include a screening to determine whether a more complete evaluation is needed, information about typical speech and language development, referrals to other specialists, or suggestions on how to address mild speech and language delays without therapy.

2. Follow-Up Consultation

  • Follow-up consultation is often consultation with public and private school teams, individual teachers and other staff, mental health practitioners, developmental services agency teams and staff, other professionals and families.

  • A follow-up consultation may occur just once or be set up on a regular basis.

  • Purposes of follow-up consultation include solving specific problems, training staff or family members, monitoring interventions, and collaborating on treatment design, development and maintenance of communication systems.
Therapy
  • Therapy is uniquely tailored to the needs of the individual.
  • An initial treatment plan will be developed with the client, family and/or agency, which includes goals, time frame, methods and how progress will be measured.

  • Parents/family members are welcome to observe therapy sessions.
  • Carry over activities are an important part of the therapy process.
  • If you feel you may have trouble completing these carry over activities regularly, please please feel free to discuss this with us. Your feedback will also be requested on the types of carry over activities that may work best for you or the client. Techniques and rationale for specific therapy and carryover activities will be provided so that you know their role in advancing you or the client toward achieving therapy goals. If you have any questions, please ask.
Evaluations
  • Most evaluations are conducted over several sessions.
  • Evaluation sessions are scheduled in thirty minute to two hour blocks, depending on the needs of the client.
  • Evaluations will generally include an extensive interview with the client, parents and/or other care providers for gathering relevant background information.
  • Evaluation report writing times includes test scoring and analysis, as well as writing of evaluation results, interpretation, explanatory material and detailed recommendations.
  • Typically an evaluation includes one hour of report time per hour of direct contact with the examinee.
  • Evaluation fees vary.

1. Traditional Evaluations

These evaluations may include:

    • Speech Articulation
    • Verbal Praxis
    • Oral/Motor Function
    • Expressive/Receptive Language Development and/or Social/Pragmatics

  • Simplified Speech Solutions, LLC will refer you to another professional for evaluation of swallowing, hearing, mental health and other medical conditions.
  • A traditional evaluation assesses an impairment or delay in the area assessed.
  • An evaluation plan is agreed upon, in writing before testing begins. This give the client and family an opportunity to ask questions about test instruments and procedures.

2. Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) Evaluation

An AAC evaluation includes:

    • Completion of a file review, and meeting with the team
    • An observation of the current communication system the student is using
    • Trial of various communication system (lasting up to a few months)
    • A thorough written evaluation
    • Contact with the primary care physician to obtain medical necessity of the communication system
    • A review meeting with the team
    • Submission of the funding request to the insurance company
    • Initial and follow-up training of funded communication system
